Susan Villecroze has spent all but two years in Canada since the age of three. Two years were spent in Paris, France right after her graduation and her wedding in the summer of 2001 - yes, Jean-Louis is her husband. She graduated from the University of Victoria with a combined major in Physics and Astronomy and a minor in Computer Science. After a couple of coop terms doing astronomy research, she decided not to pursue a career in Astronomy. Her physics coop work placements included the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO), Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Co. (CFHT) and Environment Canada. Susan chose to be a web designer and developer because of the exciting challenges it presents by having to fill multiple roles. By taken on this title, she gets to design graphical interfaces, code in DHTML, program in PHP, create databases, design graphics, take care of web and database administration, maintain web sites, optimize sites for search engines, and provide web consulting, Internet marketing and web security. As the only co-founder working fulltime for hexaZen, she also takes care of all the marketing, business handlings and finances.
Her interest in web design started when she was in France living "la vie française". There, Susan Villecroze took French classes, volunteered, hung around English-speaking friends, traveled, became a gourmet cook and had a lot of time on her hands. Coding in html was her way of occupying spare time. She also developed an interest in art and decorating. Web design and development combines both her computer skills and artistic ability. She has accumulated nearly four years of web design and development experience. She is currently developing web pages for hexaZen, in addition to her personal sites and writing articles.
